You read that headline right, folks.
A new trailer for the new Wonder Woman movie just came out, and it’s AWESOME:
I usually don’t follow superhero movies at ALL, (does Deadpool count? I like that one) so I have no idea if this movie is supposed to be controversial or what people are saying so far. All I know is that Wonder Woman looks kick a** and I want to go see it.
Well….apparently not everyone is excited, and some people live their lives trying to figure out how to be the most insufferable person they know. Why else would anyone write something like this? Refinery29 put out the following heap of garbage:
It’s really hard to believe that Wonder Woman, who has been on an island filled with strong women her entire life is worried about waxing and then bleaching her pits to make sure there isn’t a hair left on those babies. That is a time-consuming process and she’s a little too busy training “10 times harder” with the Amazons so that she can, you know, save the world. It really all comes down to priorities and I’d like to think shaving is pretty low on the list, even if it’s high on the studio’s.
It also comes down to freedom. To have or not have armpit hair is a woman’s choice and it’s one that she’s often judged for. With Wonder Woman standing in as an example of female strength, it would have been exciting to see her with a little hair under her arms. To prove that women — even those who are superheroes — don’t have to cater to beauty standards that are meant to make them more attractive to men. Women can instead celebrate their bodies in whatever way they see fit, hairy pits and all.
In response, let me quote THEIR OWN WORDS. “To have or not have armpit hair is a woman’s choice and it’s one that she’s often judged for.” Ok….So why are you judging? Why is this even a conversation we’re having? Can you IMAGINE how distracting (and gross, honestly) it would be if Wonder Woman had hairy pits?! The’d be all sweaty and matted because of all the cool stunts she does. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT, FEMINIST?! SWEATY, MATTED PITS?!
Also, she has super powers. If I had super powers I’d hope that one of them would be the ability to have super smooth armpits all the time. Seriously. Like instant laser hair removal with her armbands or something. That’s probably it. It all makes sense now, Refinery29.
This is so dumb. If these people were actually concerned with “female strength” they’d realize that armpit hair has nothing to do with anything. That’s exactly their problem. Today’s feminists are choosing to ignore real issues women face around the word (say, the fact that they face extreme corporal punishment in the Middle East on a regular basis) and literally making stuff up to b*tch and moan about so that they can continue to feel like victims.
