President Trump will speak before a joint session of Congress tonight. It’s not a State of the Union address, but it will certainly have a similar vibe. Trump’s expected to discuss what his administration has accomplished so far and lay out his vision for the future. I’m eagerly awaiting more details on his first budget, the repeal and replacement plan for Obamacare and of course, tax reform.
Will Democratic lawmakers show up and listen, or will they use the event to protest in some way, shape or form?
Unfortunately, some Democratic lawmakers are using the event to make a political statement. They’re bringing at least four illegal immigrants to the speech.
Aaima Sayed, a Muslim-American whose parents brought her to the U.S. when she was three years old, has been invited as a guest of the second-highest ranking Senate Democrat, Dick Durbin of Illinois.
Sayed, now a third-year medical student at Loyola University, qualifies for permission to live and work in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program put in place in 2012 by President Barack Obama.
New York Rep. Jerrold Nadler, Colorado Rep. Jared Polis, and Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan—all Democrats—also plan to bring DACA recipients to the address.
It’s a stupid political ploy. The DHS memo doesn’t even suggest touching DACA right now, and Trump seems to have a soft spot for these “incredible kids.” He’s promised to deal with the issue with “great heart.”
“His thinking is: ‘We don’t have to deal with this right now. I want to hear more. I want to plan how we deal with this,’” Spicer said of Trump’s decision to leave DACA as is for the time being. “Let’s not start to create a problem that doesn’t exist right now. We’re not capable of handling it right now — we’ve got to deal with the first million.”
I think that’s the right move for now. This administration has bigger fish to fry. We need the wall. We need to target violent criminal illegal aliens. That’s priority numero uno.
