It sucks that these conversations need to take place with our kids at a younger and younger age these days, but it’s unavoidable. My son is 11, and we’ve already had preliminary discussions with him about consent – what it means, why it’s important, and we’ve even talked with him about the fact that there are crappy girls out there who will claim that they’ve been taken advantage of when they haven’t. (I’m not going to say that that’s our sneaky way of trying to get him completely afraid of sleeping with a girl he’s not married to, but I’m not NOT going to say that either.)
Anyway, there’s a video out now of parents having this discussion with their kids – of various ages – but by far, my favorite parent is Tyrone’s mom, who tells him what’s what, without holding back, and she does it in a way that’s both hilarious and endearing and IN YOUR FACE.
