Student Protesters Are Gonna March For FREEEEEEE College, Y’all!

I think I’ve hit my limit of stupid for the day, because I can’t stop LAUGHING at how idiotic these college kids are (I really should be crying, but everyone hits their breaking point). They seriously think a college education is a basic human right? SINCE WHEN? (I musta missed that when I was reading over the Bill of Rights).

According to this, there’s a grassroots group called the Million Student March that’s planning on protesting at college campuses (that is, if they can find space between the racist malcontents at Missouri and the “safe space” toddlers at Yale) and demanding free college tuition, $15/minimum wage, and complete abolition of student loan debt. Their reasoning? Education is a fundamental human right! We deserve a trophy just for showing up! Trigger Warnings! Microaggressions! MY FEEEEEEEEEEEELINGS!

BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA *snort* HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA *gasp* HA-HA-HA-HA *wheeze* HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA *cough, cough* HA-HA-ha-ha-ha… heh… ahem.

The goals were inspired by a comment U.S. Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders made earlier this year, when he said it’d take a million students marching to make elected officials care about higher education, Kevin Sabo, a UC Berkeley student told the Daily Californian.

 

“If a million young people march on Washington they [say] to the Republican leadership, we know what’s going on, and you better vote to deal with student debt. You better vote to make public universities and colleges tuition free, that’s when it will happen,” Sanders said during an interview with Yahoo’s Katie Couric in June.

 

And indeed, the marchers’ demands share a lot in common with Sanders’ ideas. He’s been a vocal supporter of a higher minimum wage and has a proposal to make tuition free at public colleges through a tax on Wall Street transactions.

Is it really “grassroots” if the idea was suggested by a U.S. senator who is also running for president? A senator who also doubles as your deranged and drunk uncle who keeps shouting inappropriate things at the neighbors?

Here’s the dumbest thing about this – say you magically found a clause in the Constitution that grants you the right to a free education and freedom from student loan debt and the freedom to prance around town on your purple unicorn. You DO realize that you’re talking about the same basic human rights that you’re denying others, right? Basic human rights like, you know, the right that people have to speak freely without fear of retribution from the government or intimidation from an unruly mob that’s camped out on the university quad. Even if that speech contradicts your opinions or beliefs or even offends you.

Basically, free education is a basic human right, free speech is not. And we wonder how it is that academia is flushing itself down the crapper.

Here’s an idea – if you don’t want to go into debt for college AND if you can’t handle hearing ideas and speech that might offend you, you can totally skip going to college and start looking for a job. That way, you can stay in your little non-offensive “safe space” bubble and you’ll easily avoid racking up thousands of dollars in debt that you won’t be able to pay back. There! Problem solved!

(Conservatives are master problem-solvers – wish that people would listen to us more often.)

However, this made me think of this video from about a year or so ago when Mock and Daisy made fun of a bunch of liberal chicks who were whining that the government needed to give them free birth control and other crap, while never really thinking how the government was going to pay for it. Just substitute “This is my body” with something like my “Gimme Free Education Because Bernie Sanders Told You To!” and you’ll get the idea –

Same liberal crap, different day. It never changes.
