Racist Leftist Trolls Get The Internet Riled Up About Boycotting “Star Wars”

I was going to completely ignore these idiots because – HOLY CRAP THERE’S A NEW STAR WARS TRAILER! And I would MUCH rather re-watch the trailer for the fiftieth time since it dropped last night during Monday Night Football (ah – my two worlds colliding in lovely, Force-Awakened harmony. This is bliss) than have to answer the gullible fools of the Internet who ACTUALLY think that it was a bunch of nutty racist right-wingers who are calling for a boycott of Star Wars: The Force Awakens because the movie stars a black guy named Finn (played by John Boyega) who poses as a Stormtrooper to spy on the villains before becoming a Jedi (according to the movie poster) and a girl named Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) who looks like she comes from a Tatooine-ish desert planet and has a pet BB8 droid who is probably the most adorable thing to come out of the Star Wars universe (sorry, R2-D2).

But no. I have to answer the gullible fools of the Internet.

According to this article that has been plastered all over my Facebook feed needlessly, the hashtag #BoycottStarWarsVII started trending yesterday in anticipation of the trailer release. The sourcelink says that there were tons of tweets with the hashtag that accused director JJ Abrams of having an anti-white agenda and that the new movie was going to be one big social justice screed. And there were a bunch of tweets that used racial slurs against the actors and said some pretty nasty things. To read the article at Hollywood Reporter, you’d have thought that the KKK is reassembling to protest theaters around the world for showing this film.

Problem is, somebody did the research of where this insanity started and actually took the time to Storify the tweets. Some of the offending Twitter handles reference things like the Republican Party and Christianity and things that would seem to be connected with right-wing conservatives – the fact that the Twitter handles also match the name associated with the account is evidence that these are strawman accounts set up as cruel parodies of right-wingers. Sort of like they’re a bunch of liberals who’ve never met a conservative in real life, but they “know” what they’ve heard conservatives are like. Jon Stewart told them that’s what conservatives are like, so it MUST be true –

As for the Twitter accounts that don’t look like crappy parodies of what sheltered liberals think conservatives are – there are probably in actual fact two or three morons who got this thing started, just to make people mad. They saw that people were excited about Star Wars and the new trailer and they wanted to capitalize on that in order to get their 15 minutes of fame. And what gets people more riled up than proclaiming a beloved film franchise is involved in racism and whatever other “-ism” is all the rage with the critters scuttling around the darkest reaches of the Internet. Given how racist the left actually is, it wouldn’t surprise me if these nutters are racist themselves, but they have to deflect their stupidity onto conservatives. When, really, all conservatives want to do is enjoy an awesome movie that expands on a universe they already love with their favorite characters, plus some new ones that we’re going to love as this franchise continues to grow and flourish (As an aside – it’s stupid to suggest that conservatives would call for a massive boycott of Star Wars. Boycotts are the purview of liberalism. Liberals are typically the ones demanding people be shut down for opposing viewpoints. Conservatives, on the other hand, want liberals to be able to speak and be heard so we can point out everything wrong with what they’re saying).

And if there are any idiots who truly think Star Wars is anti-white simply because they cast a black guy in a lead role, I’ve got three names for you: Lando Calrissian, Mace Windu, Jango Fett (okay, Jango Fett was actually Polynesian – that’s really what the question of John Boyega’s character came into play. The Stormtroopers are supposed to be clones of a Polynesian guy and in the first trailer, Boyega shows up in Stormtrooper uniform and people were all “Waaaaaaait – that’s not a Jango-Fett-clone!” But I think the rest of the trailers kind of took care of that – Boyega looks like he’s supposed to be a spy against what’s left of the Empire and he’s undercover as a Stormtrooper. So, it works. Calm down fans – it’ll be all right. Have a cookie.)

Oh – and one more name: James Earl Jones voiced Darth Vader.

Anyway – enough of that complaining – we all need to watch this trailer again!

UPDATE: Several people pointed it out (and I forgot to mention it before) that the reason the hashtag was trending was because of all the “value signaling” going on. Like, you have to PROVE you aren’t racist by tweeting out that you condemn the handful of morons who got this thing started in the first place, so you include the hashtag so it shows up, thus making it trend on Twitter. Not that anyone with Actual Brains has to do this because – HELLO, who is truly boycotting this movie? But it makes the Social Justice Cultists feel better about themselves and it signals to their fellow Cultists that they’re all on the same team. Like a creepy secret handshake or something.
