Take a look at some of these pictures. They sort of remind me of one of those HGTV makeover shows.
This billiard room is quite awesome, don’t you think?

As is this lovely little kitchen with the stainless steel appliances, nice cabinetry, and all the extras:
My personal fave, though, is the foyer.

I don’t really have a foyer (I think the fancy folks pronounce that Foy YAY, by the way). In my house, we have more of a three-by-three area where folks walk in, wipe their feet on a cheap IKEA rug, and oila – they’re kinda already in my living room. So you can imagine how in awe I am of a fancy FOY YAY. Especially in light of the fact that I WORK FOR A LIVING.
But I digress.
What’s highly energizing about these photos (and I figure energizing is a way easier and more sarcastic word to use than high-blood-pressure-inducing) is that they were all taken in SUBSIDIZED HOUSING. You know, stuff that you pay for but have no idea you’re paying for, Jane and John Q. Sucker-Taxpayer.
In Fairfax, Virginia, people sucking on the government teat are living among this luxury. On the taxpayer’s dime, of course.
“Resort-style swimming pools with fountains and heated spas, billiards rooms, granite counter tops, ceramic tile, indoor basketball courts, stainless steel appliances — many Fairfax County taxpayers cannot afford such luxuries. But they are paying for these amenities for use by low-income residents who live in subsidized housing in affluent neighborhoods.
“They’re a part of our rental program where we subsidize the rents for the individuals in the units, and we end up having to pick up the condo fees,” supervisor Pat Herrity told 630 WMAL News.
Herrity does not advocate putting low-income residents in “ghetto-style” housing but he takes issue with taxpayers who cannot afford such luxuries being forced to pick up the tab for people who qualify for subsidized housing.”
I’m living the wrong life, it seems. You know – that whole “work hard to provide for your family and pay your taxes and be a good citizen and do your patriotic part and live that American dream.” Apparently, I need to just give up my job(s) and get on government cheese. Because it seems as though that cheese is really expensive and imported and downright freakin yummy. And I wouldn’t have to lift a finger to have it.
Huh. Who knew?
