The California legislature is taking steps to keep President Trump off the ballot in 2020.
In a 27-10 vote, the state senate voted to require a candidate to show 5 years of tax returns. If you recall, President Trump did not release his tax returns after demands during 2016 election.
The left seems to really be zeroing in on this– likely because the Mueller report came up short.

California’s presidential primary is scheduled for March 3. If the bill becomes law, Trump could not appear on the state’s primary ballot without filing his tax returns with the California secretary of state.
“We believe that President Trump, if he truly doesn’t have anything to hide, should step up and release his tax returns,” said Sen. Mike McGuire, a Democrat from Healdsburg and the co-author of the bill along with Sen. Scott Wiener, a San Francisco Democrat.
The legislature passed a similar measure two years ago. Surprisingly, former Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed it. There’s no telling if California’s current governor– Gavin Newsom– would sign it. His spokesperson said the bill would be “evaluated on its own merits.”
Obviously, this measure– if passed– would affect all candidates– Democrats and Republicans.
Let’s be real though. The chances of an individual with an “R” next to their name winning California are slim to none– at least these days anyway. The Reagan Revolution is far behind us.
