Well, Whaddya Know!

According to this, that whole budget bill that Gov. Scott Walker got passed in Wisconsin after being villainized, threatened, protested, and scorned, is doing PRECISELY WHAT HE SAID IT WOULD.

If you’re a person with Actual Brains, then this is the least surprising news of all time.

One Democratic Senate member, Mark Miller, said that the world would basically end if the budget bill passed, and his fellow Democrats (who fled to avoid doing their jobs, as you might recall) agreed with him. So did all of those losers who camped out in the state building to protest.

But in the Kaukauna school district near Appleton, WI, things are looking up – WAY up – since the bill passed in February. Now that the staff has to contribute 2.6% more towards their health coverage, and also contribute to their pensions, the school district will save well over a million dollars this year. And the collective bargaining restrictions are helping too – because now the districts can negotiate with vendors OUTSIDE of the teachers union. The fact that they were previously ONLY allowed to negotiate with a company created by the union was completely ridiculous. This year, they were told they’d face a huge increase in premiums. But now that the district can shop around, lo and behold, the union is all, “We didn’t mean it! We’ll match your lowest bid!”

Huh. Who’da thunk it?

Plus, the collective bargaining restrictions Walker got passed have resulted in teachers now working 6 out of 7 periods a day instead of just five. This means class sizes get to be reduced quite significantly – from 31 kids to 26 in high school.

And teacher salaries are staying level (the top being 80k plus another 35k in benefits, with summers off). The district also plans to introduce a merit pay system AND hire more teachers with the money they’re saving from not being slaves to the union.

Amazingly, the fight continues in Wisconsin, even with the results being as dramatically awesome as they are in Kaukauna, because union leaders and the liberals who support them are IDIOTS.

But I’m happy for the kids in Kaukauna and all of the other districts in WI which will likely see similar results. And it’s good that Scott Walker is looking out for them, because the teacher’s union obviously isn’t.
