Get your mind out of the gutter. I don’t mean getting kissed by someone topless. (you wish!) I mean Hershey’s Kisses are missing their tops!
THE TIPS ARE GONE.
According to Daily Mail:
People across the US were quick to express their outrage to Hershey’s this week when they unwrapped their teardrop-shaped treats to find the tops have been flattened or completely cut off.
…Huh?
The majority of complaints have come from bakers, who posted photos online of the misshapen Kisses that they say are ruining the look of their festive Christmas cookies.
‘The excitement of seeing that little curl on the top and when we open it up, it’s actually not there,’ baker Cathy Previtali-Matush said.
I’m not familiar with this curl excitement, but to each their own.
The fury began when bakers from The Wedding Cookie Table Community Facebook group collectively noticed the mishaps in packages of their beloved Hershey’s Kisses.
‘It was like a symphony that went up across the country. They all noticed everywhere,’ Laura Magone, the Wedding Cookie Table Community administrator, told KDKA.
‘The cookie bakers got a little bit testy over this issue and it’s a shock,’ she added. ‘They care so much about the look of their cookie. The presentation is everything, so to take the time to make a homemade cookie and then have a broken something sitting on it, it’s very offensive to them.’

Ok yeah – those are UGLY.
So I kinda get it. My mom is an AMAZING cook and baker. Everything always tastes like HEAVEN – but I’ve actually seen her scrap baked goods and start over if they don’t look right. (More like, she let us kids keep the “ugly ones” and she’d start over on the ones she meant to give away.)
Presentation is EVERYTHING.
The outrage then spilled over to Twitter, with Kiss consumers tweeting to Hershey’s directly to look for answers.
It’s not clear why exactly the Kisses have lost their popular shape. At first, a customer service representative told consumers it was a deliberate change so the piece wouldn’t fall off after production, but now the company is changing its tune.
That’s…weird. Why mess with something that doesn’t need messing with?
The fact that some look smushed while others look CUT OFF is weird, too.
Jeff Beckman, director of corporate communications for The Hershey Company, told Business Insider the company is looking into the issue.
‘We understand that bakers’ expectations are high for an iconic brand that is more than 100 years old because they are proud of their desserts,’ he said.
The Wedding Cookie Table Community Facebook group brought this to our attention,’ Beckman added. ‘We appreciate their love of the brand and taking the time to bring the appearance of our iconic Hershey’s Kisses to our attention.
Here’s what I think happened:
