Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Made A Fool Of Herself On Comedy Central
Socialist darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently appeared on Comedy Central (fitting, no?) and made a complete fool of herself.
For starters, she tried to say that the $15 minimum wage in Seattle didn’t have a negative impact on the city’s economy.
Ocasio-Cortez's claim that a $15 minimum wage did not hurt economic growth in Seattle is false: https://t.co/NVGXV8ZsNM
Also totally false: "200 million Americans make less than $20,000 a year. That’s 40 percent of this country": https://t.co/nMWRXL9K6Bpic.twitter.com/T6yARX7Yp1

That’s her “proof.” Random studies say that’s “not the case.”
We’ve been covering the minimum wage drama in Seattle over the years. She’s wrong. Raising the wage has resulted in fewer jobs, less money and less employee hours. In many cases, managers just took more responsibilities on instead of keeping employees. Businesses have cut employee benefits and in some cases, laid them off altogether. Oh oh oh– and in some cases, employees who DIDN’T lose their jobs stared asking for LESS hours because they started making too much and no longer qualified for subsidized housing and other government benefits.
It’s almost as if some of these people LIKE staying on the government dole.
Perhaps Alexandria can catch up on Seattle’s progressive madness here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, or here.
And now? Now this progressive paradise is adding additional taxes on employers and trying to ban plastic straws. #Priorities.
We should probably address the second part of Ocasio-Cortez’s remark as well.
“One of the biggest problems that we have is 200 million Americans make less than $20,000 a year. That’s 40 percent of this country.”
First of all, 200 million people ≠ 40 percent of this country. We have a population of about 328 million people. In order for her statement to be true, we’d have to have a population of 500 million, which we do not.
Additionally, her entire estimate is wrong.
Her claim that 200 million Americans make less than $20,000 a year is off by tens of millions of people as U.S. Census Bureau statistics show that approximately 28 million American households live on incomes of $25,000 or less and the median household income is over $57,000.
Here’s the whole interview, if you can stand it.
All of this begs the question: Is she lying, or is she just THAT stupid?
