ESPN Host Compares Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones To A Slaveholder

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been pretty adamant about having his players stand during the national anthem. Sure, he pulled that little stunt a few weeks back, kneeling with his team BEFORE the national anthem, but that doesn’t make him a total hypocrite. I was annoyed, but technically, he didn’t go back on his word.

Jones reinforced his stance Sunday.

“If there is anything disrespecting the flag, then we will not play. Period,” he told reporters Sunday. “We’re going to respect the flag, and I’m going to create the perception of it.”

If protesters can take a stand, why can’t Jones? Clearly, his finger is on the pulse of the fans. Even Roger Goodell is caving. Wanna know who DOESN’T have a good sense of the NFL’s audience? ESPN host Michael Wilbon. He actually compared Jerry Jones to a slaveholder.

“And the word that comes to my mind―and I don’t care who doesn’t like me using it―is plantation,” Wilbon said Monday. “The players are here to serve me, and they will do what I want. No matter how much I pay them, they are not equal to me. That’s what this says to me and mine.”

Are you freaking KIDDING ME? For starters, no one is FORCING black players to play the sport or remain on Jerry Jones’ team. Secondly, THEY ARE COMPENSATED WITH FAME AND FORTUNE. Thirdly, Jones isn’t abusing them or violating their rights. He’s an employer telling his employees what’s proper behavior and what’s not. Employers are allowed to do that. A restaurant owner can tell a waitress that she can’t “take a knee” every time she serves a customer with a Trump lanyard. That’s not violating her First Amendment rights, so stop it.

ESPN goons haven’t commented on Wilbon’s remarks, and who knows if they will. They tried to act all tough and super serious by temporarily suspending Jemele Hill for a second violation. Interestingly enough, that suspension was sparked because she actively encouraged people to boycott sponsors of the Cowboys over Jones’ statement.

So, will ESPN at least slap Wilbon on the wrist?

I doubt it.
