Dr. Anthony Fauci, always the bearer of bad news and pessimism, is suggesting that the United States could approach normalcy in daily life in the FALL of 2021. This can only happen though if 1,000,000 people get vaccinated EVERY DAY starting April 1st.
According to a Newsweek report on Monday, Fauci said that America “will need to reach a target of administering at least one million vaccinations every day in order to return to some form of ‘normality.'”
In weekend remarks to ABC News, Fauci said, “If we get 70 to 85 percent of the population vaccinated and we start right now, we’re getting the people who are in the priority groups. By the time we get to the end of March, the beginning of April, I would have hoped that we would have taken care of all of those priority [groups] and have what I call ‘open season’ on vaccines — namely, anybody who wants a vaccine can get a vaccine.”
Fauci added that if “at least a million people a day and maybe more” received a COVID-19 vaccination from April through August, “by the time we end the summer and get to the fall, we will have achieved that level of herd immunity that I think will get us back to some form of normality, and maybe quite normal.”
Notice that Fauci said “some form of normality.” Some. Freaking. Form. It is amazing that even if the vaccine is given to enough of the population to achieve herd immunity, Fauci still won’t promise normalcy. It’s almost as if he doesn’t want his 15 minutes to end.
Right now, about 200,000 people per day are receiving the vaccine. In Britain, those who received the first dose of the vaccine have had their second injection cancelled and delayed in order to deliver more first doses. There is now a suggestion that the second dose of the vaccine should be delayed in the United States. It seems very wrong to change the terms only after people receive the first dose. These type of shenanigans, if they happen in the United States, will not give people confidence to take the vaccine.
According to MarketWatch.com, there is also discussion of initially administering the Moderna vaccine in single doses. The clinical trial of the Moderna vaccine showed 92% efficacy after the first dose and 94% after the second dose. I don’t know about you, but I’d be satisfied with just receiving one dose and am puzzled as to why a second dose would ever be recommended for this particular vaccine.
The bottom line here is that the vaccine rollout is experiencing some bumps in the road and people are understandably cautious. This makes Dr. Fauci’s threat prediction of a timetable for a return to normalcy so disturbing. The thought of heading into winter of 2021 without normalcy is almost unbearable.
