United States Considers Withdrawing From The UN Human Rights Council Over Anti-Israel Bias

The UN Human Rights Council is a complete joke. Current members include China, Cuba, Iraq, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. Need I say more?

One of the most infuriating things about the UNHRC, to me at least? Its blatant anti-Israel bias. Of ALL countries to go after, the UNHRC targets Israel. Because of course it does.

Back in March, the US skipped a Council meeting for that very reason. The Council was expected to “adopt at least five anti-Israel resolutions,” and the Trump administration refused to tolerate it.

Prior to that, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson put UNHRC on notice, informing the Council that the U.S. would considering leaving unless “considerable reform” takes place.

That all took place in March. Here we are in June, and it doesn’t look like the Council is heeding our warnings. Because of that, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is sending out more warning shots. She said the US is “looking carefully” at its role on the Council.

‘The United States is looking carefully at this Council and our participation in it,’ Haley told the Geneva forum in her first address. ‘We see some areas for significant strengthening.’

Heck yeah it’s hard to accept. It doesn’t even make sense.

It sounds like Haley berated the Council and urged it to wake up address the never-ending list of human rights violations in Venezuela. She even called on Venezuela to suck it up and give up its seat until it gets its “house in order.”

She said it was ‘hard to accept’ five resolutions had been passed against Israel, a US ally, while none were considered against Venezuela, which is in the grips of bloody protests over the rule of its president Nicolas Maduro.

I have no faith either will happen– that Venezuela will willingly give up its seat OR get its “house in order.”

She didn’t stop there, either. She called on the Council to do its freaking job and focus on countries that are ACTUALLY committing human rights violations. You know. Instead of wasting time bullying Israel.

She called on the Council to adopt ‘the strongest possible resolutions on the critical human rights situations in Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Belarus and Ukraine’.

 

Haley went on to say it should ‘follow up’ to prevent further human rights violations and abuses in those countries.

 

Haley described the UNHCR as ‘so corrupt’ weeks after becoming Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations.

It is “so corrupt.”

If the Council doesn’t shape up in the coming months, we should withdraw. The UN can suck it.
