The Media REALLY likes to focus on President Trump’s low favorability ratings, but according to this new Suffolk University/USA Today poll, that really leaves out the whole story.
While the nation’s forty-fifth president is still seeing historically low approval ratings, it looks like he’s still beating out the rest of the pack. In the category of favorability, the new USA Today poll puts President Trump above Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Congress, the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, and the media.
The favorability breakdown:
Vice President Mike Pence – 46.8%
President Donald Trump – 44.9%
The media- 37.1%
Republican Party – 36.9%
Democratic Party – 35.7%
Secretary Hillary Clinton – 35.1%
Rep. Elizabeth Warren – 34.2%
Congress – 25.7%
Making these results even MORE interesting, is the fact that:
Only 40.9% of those polled voted for President Trump and Vice President Pence in November and only 33% identified as Republicans.
In addition to the question of favorability, there were some other sections of the poll that indicated good news for the Trump administration. When asked about which of the choices they would consider unfavorable, 55.4% of respondents considered Hillary Clinton unfavorable, compared to 47.3% who gave President Trump the label.
Another question asked respondents, “Do you feel the country is headed in the right direction or is on the wrong track?” 45.5% of those polled answered “right direction,” narrowly edging out the 42.6% who believe the country is on the “wrong track.”
Really interesting to see these numbers coming from a block of people that for the most part doesn’t identify as Republican. They’re obviously not great… but they’re not all bad, and that’s positive.
The article mentions that favorability ratings for presidents tend to skew high at the beginning, but I think that like in many other cases, Trump is an exemption to this rule. Why? Because the media has been dead set on convincing everyone that Trump is basically one of the horsemen of the apocalypse dressed in a Nazi uniform. I actually think that as people realize that nothing’s on fire and that the world is NOT, in fact, coming to an end, the Trump hysteria may simmer down and people who are on the fence may change their tune.
Also, kudos to Pence! He’s the most popular guy in town!
