On CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday, U.S. House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy delivered a straightforward message to his Republican colleagues who have been suggesting that the entire investigation is politically motivated: Shut. Up.
“I have told Republican colleagues and friends ‘shut up talking about things that you don’t know anything about,’” Gowdy said. “Unless you’re on the committee, you have no idea what we have done, why we have done it and what new facts we have found.”
Some Republicans have been critical of the Benghazi committee. They believe the entire investigation is nothing more than a political witch hunt designed to take Hillary Clinton down.
It wasn’t just House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. Nope, Rep. Richard Hanna had to open his mouth too. While speaking on a radio station last week, Hanna said, “This may not be politically correct, but I think that there was a big part of this investigation that was designed to go after people and an individual, Hillary Clinton.”
Not true.
“We have found new facts that have absolutely nothing to do with her,” Gowdy said.
“I get that people don’t want to talk about that,” he added. “But the seven [Republican] members of my committee are much more focused on the four dead Americans than we are anyone’s presidential aspirations.”
The truth is, Hillary Clinton happened to be the Secretary of State at that time. We know she lied. Multiple times. Those families deserve answers. The American people deserve answers. No one gives a crap about her presidential aspirations. This is about four dead Americans. Why is that so hard to comprehend? Why can’t the deadbeat politicians in Washington understand that?
“Four dead Americans is more than enough work for me,” Gowdy said. “She’s [Clinton] a witness. She was the secretary of state. You have to talk to her. But we have already talked to 50 people not named Clinton. We’re going to talk to another couple of dozen not named Clinton.”
I’m with Gowdy. Just shut up.
