Male College Students Refuse To Attend “Consent Classes” And That Makes Feminists Mad

When I first heard the term “Rape Culture” and that it was basically the incredibly stupid idea that every guy on the planet was a rapist, whether or not he’d done anything wrong at all – I thought it was a joke. Sure, there are creepy people of both genders who do things that range from inappropriate-but-ultimately-harmless to downright criminal. But you’re going to punish and condemn EVERYBODY for the sins of a few?

Actually, that’s EXACTLY what liberal feminism does. With the guys, at least. Men on college campuses are assumed to be rapists-in-embryo. Even the most innocent of interactions between men and women can be construed to be outright rape, when viewed from the feminist perspective. If a guy asks to borrow a female classmate’s pencil? A pencil is a phallic object and represents power – to take that away from her is a symbol of taking away her independence and agency! (I’m serious – I read that in a college literature class during a unit on feminist criticism. Simply hearing that idea voiced out loud made me feel dumber than I’ve ever felt in my entire life).

The good news is that male college students are starting to fight back.

According to this, a guy named George Lawlor who attends the University of Warwick in the U.K. is protesting the school’s requirement that men attend classes on consent. As in, a full-on formal for-credit class that teaches men not to rape. The assumption is that mature, adult males who have been accepted into a major university based on their academic merits and hard work actually NEED to be taught like young children how to behave appropriately around women and girls.

What, do they think these guys are from ISIS or something?

George wrote a column in the university’s student newspaper, The Tab, about his objections to having to take the class. It reads, in part –

I feel as if I’m taking the “wrong” side here, but someone has to say it – I don’t have to be taught to not be a rapist. That much comes naturally to me, as I am sure it does to the overwhelming majority of people you and I know. Brand me a bigot, a misogynist, a rape apologist, I don’t care. I stand by that.

I already know what is and what isn’t consent. I also know about those more nuanced situations where consent isn’t immediately obvious as any decent, empathetic human being does. Yes means yes, no means no. It’s really that simple. You’d think Russell Group university students would get that much, but apparently the consent teachers don’t have as high a regard for their peers as I do.

I’m not denying there have been tragic cases of rape and abuse on campuses in the past, but do you really think the kind of people who lacks empathy, respect and human decency to the point where they’d violate someone’s body is really going to turn up to a consent lesson on a university campus? They won’t. The only people who’ll turn up will be people who (surprise, surprise) already know when it’s okay to shag someone. No new information will be taught or learned. It will just be an echo chamber of people pointing out the obvious and others nodding along, thinking the whole time thinking that they’ve saved the world.

Pretty sad that this has to be pointed out in a college newspaper. Even sadder is the response that George’s column inspired. Because, apparently, college women actually DO believe every man they meet is probably thinking about raping them –

“Crucial hole in our curriculum”? Really? You think so little of men in general that you assume that the majority of them made it to the university level of academics without learning that raping women is bad?

Oh wait – liberal feminism has co-opted morality in our society and men are the enemy. I forgot that there are people braindead enough to believe that garbage.

So, the good news is that guys aren’t taking the label of “rapist” without a fight. The bad news is that they have to fight this fight at all.
