WATCH: Sean Hannity points out Anti-Semitism and the Democratic Party
Rashida Tlaib recently said during a recent interview with Yahoo News’ podcast Skullduggery that she gets a “calming feeling” when she thinks back and reflects on the Holocaust.
The Democratic congresswoman’s comment quickly made a splash on the internet as people could not understand how she felt calmed about millions of people being murdered during the Second World War.
“There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” Tlaib said via the Washington Examiner.
She added, “And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.”
The Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein reports Tlaib’s comments include “so many historical inaccuracies in one statement.”
Tlaib’s claims that her Arab ancestors provided a “safe haven” to Jews after the Holocaust ignores the Jewish presence in the region and efforts to establish a Jewish state that predated the Holocaust, ignores that her ancestors allied with Hitler at the time of the Holocaust, and ignores decades of violence and terrorism directed at Israel both before, during, and after the Holocaust.
It should be noted that she was making this claim in the context of arguing for a one-state solution, the goal of which has always been for Arabs to overwhelm the Jewish population, and then force them as a minority to be governed by the people who are currently launching rockets at them.
Fox News reports President Trump took to Twitter to criticize Tlaib for the comment.
“Democrat Rep. Tlaib is being slammed for her horrible and highly insensitive statement on the Holocaust. She obviously has tremendous hatred of Israel and the Jewish people,” Trump said in the tweet. “Can you imagine what would happen if I ever said what she said, and says?”
As Dan Bongino reports, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise called the remark “twisted and disgusting.”
“More than six million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust; there is nothing ‘calming’ about that fact,” Scalise said.
He added: “Unfortunately, this is far from the first display of heinous anti-Semitic comments coming from Democrat House members this year, and it’s clear this is now the norm for their caucus. It’s long past time for Speaker Pelosi to take swift action and make it clear that these vile comments have no place in Congress.”
Nevertheless, Tlaib sought to defend her comments amid the criticism.
“Policing my words, twisting & turning them to ignite vile attacks on me will not work. All of you who are trying to silence me will fail miserably. I will never allow you to take my words out of context to push your racist and hateful agenda. The truth will always win,” Tlaib said in a tweet on Sunday evening.
