While President Donald Trump is waiting in the White House for Democrats to sign onto border security for America and many are down in Puerto Rico having a vacation at their “winter retreat” during the shutdown, the problem at the southern border isn’t stopping.
Another migrant caravan from Honduras is gearing up to come to the United States.
And just a reminder, that while there tends to be focus on the caravans, thousands are illegally entering all the time, with hundreds of thousands caught illegally entering last year.
And when they thought it was a good talking point earlier in the year, Democrats called it a crisis. But now, it’s all “manufactured.”
When it was politically expedient, the migrant caravans were a talking point of the left and frequently referred to as a “crisis.” Now that a new one is preparing to head for the U.S. border, it is no longer a talking point.
That is because it supports President Donald Trump’s position of needing to secure the border for the sake of Americans and those foreign nationals being lured into making the dangerous journey here.
According to The Washington Post (behind a paywall), the new caravan has been organized, using a flyer in order to recruit new “refugees” to join.
They will be heading north next week in order to “test the immigration policies of Mexico and the United States.” The new caravan will be leaving San Pedro Sula, Honduras at 5 a.m., according to the flyer.
Translation: they’re going to test the new Mexican government’s resolve to secure their southern border.
And Interior Minister Olga Sánchez Cordero is giving them a warning.
She also explained that 370 illegal entry points will now have guards. And while legal entry will be allowed with the application for visas, the Mexican border will be “controlled to prevent the entry of undocumented people.”
Are the fact that many of those in prior caravans were turned back, arrested or are still having to wait in Mexico stemming the tide?
No. According to the WaPo, the perception in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras is that people got in which is encouraging even more people to come.
Even worse, the caravan is being promoted as a safe way to travel to the United States. Executive director of the National Forum for Migration in Honduras, Karen Valladares, said, “Every day, people leave, but this way they feel more secure. There is more solidarity in going with groups. They don’t have the fear that they are going to be the victims of organized crime.”
Trump is already on it.
“There is another major caravan forming right now in Honduras, and so far we’re trying to break it up, and so far it’s bigger than anything we’ve ever seen, and a drone isn’t going to stop it, and a sensor isn’t going to stop it, but you know what’s going to stop it in its tracks? A nice, powerful wall.”
So do Democrats want to resolve these problems or not?
