What in the world was ABC thinking when they decided to do a ‘Roseanne’ spin off without Roseanne? Sure, it was nice that they allowed all those workers to keep their jobs but if they really cared about those jobs they would have let Roseanne keep hers. That would have been a much more stable and lucrative situation for everyone.
But, ABC did what most networks do these days when the liberal mob starts throwing the word racist around. They caved.
Now, they are stuck with a show that no one wants to watch and it looks like the end is near for ‘The Conners’.
From ShowBiz 411:
Last night, “The Conners” was beaten by everything- “NCIS,” “The Voice,” etc. This was their first really objective run, no World Series, nothing to distract potential viewers.
ABC has ordered 1 extra episode to the original order of 10. Sounds to me like a finale. Someone wakes up and says they dreamt Roseanne died. There’s a cackle from the next room. Fade to black.
What a disaster.
Word on the street is that the execs at ABC are having second thoughts about firing Roseanne so quickly over a harmless tweet.
From The Daily Mail:
Top ABC brass may have acted too swiftly by pulling the plug on Roseanne – and they now fear the show’s replacement spin-off will flop without its star.
Two senior executives at the network have told DailyMailTV that firing the actress was a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction by ABC’s president and admitted that temporarily suspending Barr may have been a wiser decision.
‘We didn’t think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn’t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,’ one insider said.
Other networks should take notice. Never make a knee-jerk reaction like ABC did. Take a few days. Take a deep breath. Evaluate the situation.
The move to fire Roseanne is going to end up costing ABC a lot of jobs and a lot of money and it never had to happen.
