A 20-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala has been arrested and now faces deportation for impregnating his 11-year-old girlfriend.
The man, Carlos Jacinto Cobo-Perez, essentially admitted to Phoenix authorities that he was romantically involved with the child. Suspicion arose a few months ago, after the girl’s mother noticed a hickey on her daughter’s neck. Cobo-Perez, spoke to authorities at the time and admitted it was messed up and promised to stay away from her. That didn’t last long.
In the letter, Cobo-Perez said he knew that he could go to jail for having a relationship with her, but that he did not care. Cobo-Perez admitted he’d given the letter to the girl the day after he’d talked with the detective in December, according to the filing.
Months later, he impregnated her.
Cobo-Perez is facing charges of sexual conduct with a minor and aggravated assault, according to court records. He was being held in a Maricopa County jail on a $150,000 bond. His next court hearing was scheduled for May 28.
Here’s ICE’s statement: “On May 18, 2019, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer with the Maricopa County Jail on Carlos Jacinto Cobo-Perez, 20, an illegal alien from Guatemala, following his criminal arrest for two felony counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one felony count of aggravated assault.”
