We Finally Have A New Speaker Of The House

Louisiana Rep Mike Johnson was elected as Speaker of the House after a tiresome three weeks.

To be completely honest, I really didn’t know anything about Mike Johnson until today. But after hearing his speech, and looking into him, I think this is a great choice. He’s a Christian, and he loves the Constitution, so that’s already a win right there. He also has an incredibly Conservative voting record in Congress and he doesn’t believe in mutilating children.
This in and of itself is enough to convince me he’s right for the job. Plus the fact that he somehow got every Republican member to vote for him, so that’s a huge win. I didn’t think we would see a day where all Republican members of the House actually agreed on a Speaker. Not to mention, this exists and makes me love him even more:

It takes one to call one. House Democratic minority leader Hakeem Jeffries says newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson is an “election denier”, referring to Johnson’s opposition to the outcome of the 2020 election. That’s true. But it takes a lot of nerve for Jeffries to criticize anyone for doing exactly what he himself did in 2016.
The New York Times writes: “In 2020, Mr. Johnson embraced Mr. Trump’s wild and false claims of fraud. Johnson also falsely claimed the election was “rigged.”
True enough. But Jeffries is hoping no one will remember that he is also guilty of denying the outcome of a Presidential election.
In the aftermath of the 2016 election that Donald Trump won, Jeffries, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi all pushed the falsehood that the election was illegitimate and stolen by Russia. They were joined by almost every Democrat in Congress and Democratic Party leaders past and present. They’re still sticking to that claim today.
Just more proof of Mark Twain’s observation that voters’ short memories are a politician’s best friend.
