No, 270 Doctors Did NOT Call Out Joe Rogan.

OPINION | This article contains political commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

Sometimes, writing for a conservative blog feels an awful lot like being a fact checker. This is because Big Tech and leftist media refuse to get their sh*t together and DO THEIR JOB, which few of them were ever good at anyway but at least they tried once upon a time.

One of their latest bungles is to do with Joe Rogan and 270 so-called doctors.

Almost as many “scientists, medical professionals, professors, and science communicators” as there were Trojans at Thermopylae penned an open letter to Mr. Rogan, accusing him of “promoting baseless conspiracy theories” and “a concerning history of broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Basically they want Spotify to take down the podcast, develop (more) guidelines about what people are allowed to say, have Joe Rogan stoned to death in the streets of LA, blah blah, you get the point.

Now, if 270 doctors actually all agreed with this, that’d be something. But you’re smart, you saw the quotes and my cleverly applied “supposed” in a previous paragraph. You already can tell that’s not what happened.

No, what actually happened is that 270 people tenuously tied to the terms “medical” and “professional” signed this open letter, and rather than do their due diligence and go through the names and occupations of the people in question (WHICH ARE LITERALLY RIGHT BELOW THE OPEN LETTER, IT’S NOT LIKE IT TOOK WORK), media outlets took the “270 doctors” idea and ran with it.

The Guardian, Salon, Washington Examiner, Daily Mail, New York Post, and Lord knows how many others published headlines referring to the group of 270 variously as “doctors,” “experts,” and “scientists.” The letter itself refers to the signees as “physicians” and “scientists.”

But when someone decided to, you know, do their job as a reporter, they found that once holy crusaders are tallied, only around 100 actually hold qualified medical degrees, and even fewer are practicing doctors. And if, like me, you were wondering what the bleeding f*ck a “medical communicator” is, let me assure you of their very strong credentials as. . . podcasters.

The Dossier reports that the letter “is signed by over 50 PhD academics, around 60 college professors, 29 nurses, 10 students, 4 medical residents, and [a handful of] science podcasters,” and further notes that “neither of the two reported co authors of the letter — Jessica Rivera and Ben Rein — possess medical degrees. Rivera holds a master’s degree and Rein is a PhD academic who researches psychiatry.”

For the sake of your entertainment and my rising blood pressure, let us all enjoy together these highlights from the 270 medical professionals partisan douchebags’ “relevant” occupations (and allow me to note I am not saying their fields are not valid nor everyone in the profession is a douchebag, just these individuals for pretending they have valid credentials when they don’t):

  • Podcasters– oh, sorry, “science communicators”
  • A dentist, fighting the good fight against cavital misinformation
  • A social worker, who probably just needed a hug and got wrapped up in this on accident
  • A psychologist and a psychiatrist, because all the ‘Rona needs is a little CBT
  • A marriage and family therapist??? Really??
  • A smattering of students who have yet to earn a medical degree because they DON’T KNOW ENOUGH YET
  • Science Communicator, or someone whose podcast is so sh*t they didn’t even want to mention it by name, I guess?
  • A science teacher, because popping in Jurassic Park is effective at teaching geology (yes, I had a teacher legitimately do this) and makes you a qualified epidemiologist and arbiter of allowable speech
  • A senior design engineer, are you even TRYING at this point???
  • And finally, my personal favorite: not one, but TWO veterinarians.

Oy vey.
