Opinion: I Would Rather Have Patriotic Losers Instead of Self-Entitled Activist Winners

Well, the U.S. Women’s National Team got their asses beat by Sweden this morning after nearly every one of them kneeled during the national anthem in the name of BLM. I would like to acknowledge the three players in this photo who stood for the anthem with their hands over their hearts:

Carli Lloyd

Lindsey Horan

Julie Ertz

This loss doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

The women of this team, or most of them, have lost sight of what’s important. America is the greatest country on the planet. Many people seemed to have forgotten this in recent months. The fact that these women have the freedom to pursue a sport that they love as a career is a gift. Ask the women of Saudi Arabia.

What are they doing with this gift? Using it as a platform to protest the very nation that gave it to them. I believe in peaceful protest. That’s your right as an American. What I don’t agree with is the protesting of your nation while acting as a representative on the international stage. If you go into the competition with the mindset that your country isn’t the best, then you shouldn’t be an Olympian.

These ladies got so caught up in their roles as activists that they forgot to do their actual job: win the game.

This whole thing just rubs me the wrong way, as I’m sure it does for a lot of other patriotic Americans. We’re made to feel that loving America makes us bad people because our nation’s history is not blemish free. Well, neither is the history of any other country on the face of the planet. What we’re supposed to do is learn about those mistakes so that they aren’t made again.

Throughout our nation’s history, countless men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice for the future of our nation. Were they wrong to do that?

Maybe the U.S. soccer girls should focus a little more on the soccer aspect instead of concerning themselves with political activism. I would rather have a team full of patriots who lose rather than a team full of self-entitled, anti-American winners.

Sports is for entertainment, not for political statements.
