Dr. Fauci has reportedly won a $1 million Israeli prize for “defending science” and “speaking truth to power.”
Which is hilarious because Dr. Fauci has spectacularly flip flopped on key issues so many times since the onset of the pandemic that I literally have to ask for clarification on this one.
Which version of the science was he defending in order to win the award?
Which version of the truth was he speaking in order to win the award?
Was it the science that said Hydroxychloroquine (a widely used, well studied, and time tested drug with considerable positive off-label uses) is deadly and dangerous, and must be banned from pharmacies and prohibited from use? Even though every other Covid effort included the mantra “it’s worth it if it saves even one life,” it apparently wasn’t worth it to let people try HCQ.
Or was it the science that he literally researched and authored over the course of decades about the incredible positive effects of HCQ in combating coronaviruses?
Was it the science that prompted him to say that the risk of coronavirus in the USA is “minuscule?”
Or was it the science that had him recommending widespread lockdowns?
Or was it the science that showed that lockdowns had no substantial effect on lowering the number of cases while he continued to support unscientific lockdowns?
Was it when he said there was no need to wear a mask because “the masks sold at drugstores aren’t even good enough to truly protect anyone.”
“If you look at the masks that you buy in a drug store, the leakage around that doesn’t really do much to protect you. People start saying, ‘Should I start wearing a mask?’ Now, in the United States, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask.”
Was it that science he was defending?
Or was it the science that had him recently saying that double masking is just “common sense?” You know, after he had said that there was really no need to wear two masks. Which was also after he had first insisted there was no need for masks at all.
Was it the science that had him saying schools should all be shut down?
Or was it the science that had him saying schools should all be opened up?
Or was it the science that had him saying that actually, schools can’t open up until a stimulus passes, even though the science unequivocally indicates that schools can safely reopen. (In fact Florida, the third largest state, has had schools open for the entire school year.)
Which science, exactly?
And which truth was he speaking to power?
Was it the truth where he said there was nothing more that Donald Trump could do than what he was already doing?
Was it the truth where he praised Trump’s briefings as “short and crisp” and “helpful?”
Or was it when he lambasted Trump for holding useless briefings and laid the blame for hundreds of thousands of deaths squarely on the shoulders of the President?
Which truth, exactly, was he speaking to power?
So really, this award means absolutely nothing.
His “science” changes wit shifting political whims. In fact, his version of “science” often contradicts actual scientific data. And his version of “truth” is so inextricably interwoven with the popular political narrative and self-aggrandizement that it can hardly be considered “truth.”
And yet, I’m not at all surprised.
