Comedian Bill Burr rolled into everyone’s favorite equal opportunity mocker Saturday Night Live for his first time hosting the show. Now, I don’t have any particular feelings about Burr, but all my comedian friends in Iceland collectively lost their sh*t when he was in town for a show, so I assumed he doesn’t suck. No one is more critical of successful comedians than unsuccessful comedians.
But when I saw the New York Post headline “Bill Burr’s ‘offensive’ monologue on ‘SNL’ ignites Twitter firestorm,” I clicked “play” on the video so fast I sprained my index finger.
For your viewing pleasure:
A few highlights:
“The way white women somehow hijacked the woke movement. . . generals around the world should be analyzing this. Just to refresh your memory: The woke movement was supposed to be about people of color not getting opportunities, the advance that they deserve, finally making that happen. And it was about that for like, eight seconds. Somehow, white women swung their Gucci-booted feet over the fence of oppression and stuck themselves at the front of the line. I don’t know how they did it! I’ve never heard such complaining in my life from white women.”
Guess who got the most offended at that bit? YUP. White women.
Bill Burr is trash and has always been trash. Not because he doesn’t raise valid criticisms in some of his comedy, but because he has always leveraged his ability to point them out to the detriment of change and the benefit of himself, and he can fuck off into the sun for it.

To borrow the words of a favorite comedian of mine, “You’re the joke later.”
Burr also offered some valid thoughts on Black History Month:
“The month of June is Gay Pride month. That’s a little long, don’t you think, for a group of people that were never enslaved? How did they get all of June? . . .
“The black people were actually enslaved. They get February, they get 28 days of overcast weather. … How about you hook them up with July? These are equator people.”
Burr then went on to point out that gay black people get a straight 61 days of partying– not a bad deal, in my humble straight white opinion.
Not in a butt hurt gay interacial tweeter’s opinion, though.
Honestly, I didn’t even know who Bill Burr was, and after that opening monologue I can honestly say I’m glad I didn’t. Jokes were in poor taste, not funny. As a gay man in an interracial relationship we were both offended and turned the channel. Who approved that monologue?

HE ADVOCATED FOR ONE OF YOU TO PARTY FOR 61 DAYS BASED ON ARBITRARY CHARACTERISTICS BEYOND YOUR CONTROL. The guy is on your team! What do you want from him?!
I’ve never been a particular fan of Bill Burr, but I enjoyed his jokes and if he’s pissing off fragile twitter warriors with only 7 minutes of material, I’m gonna have to keep an eye on him.
