Senator Tim Scott: “Looking at the video, I saw no justification whatsoever for those cops to shoot that young man, Jacob“

Well, so much for the Scott-Haley or Haley-Scott ticket in 2024. After watching Senator Scott speak Monday night at the Republican National Convention, I thought he got it. But apparently, he does not. He is joining the mainstream media and liberal politicians in condemning the police and standing with a man who resisted arrest and allegedly reached for a deadly weapon inside his car.

This is so disappointing from Scott.

From The Blaze:

“Looking at the video, I saw no justification whatsoever for those cops to shoot that young man, Jacob,” Scott told Gayle King. “We need to get to the root of the issue. As the pastor who prayed before the news conference for the family said, this is a sin issue not a skin issue, though it seems to be happening far more often to folks who are African American than not. That frustrates me, to be honest with you.”

Well, there are several points to take issue with what Senator Scott said. First, to say there was “no justification whatsoever” is just asinine. I mean, REALLY??? Was Jacob just walking along, complying with police orders, and then just shot for no reason?

The police were dealing with a man with warrants out for his arrest, who was violently resisting arrest. That man then reached into his vehicle for, from police perspective, GOD KNOWS WHAT! This does not seem to be a situation of “no justification whatsoever.” I’d say there was no justification whatsoever for Blake to be resisting the police.

Second, all the facts are not yet out on the shooting. Everyone needs to stop jumping to wild conclusions and just let the chips fall where they may. We seem to be getting to a point in this country where black people are allowed to disobey police orders and resist arrest and if the police actually try to do their job, they are made out to be criminals.

Police officers are in a dangerous and impossible position right now.

I don’t want to see anyone shot and killed or injured, but I have a difficult time second-guessing police in these high-stress situations where decisions that could be a matter of life and death have to be made in a split second.

Finally, let’s not call Jacob Blake a “young man.” That is far too kind. According to Newsweek, Blake was facing serious criminal charges at the time of this shooting.

Prosecutors in Kenosha County, Wisconsin charged Blake, 29, with third-degree sexual assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection with domestic abuse last month, according to The Kenosha News. An arrest warrant for Blake was issued on July 6.

…

Raysean White, the man who filmed the video, said he saw police officers wrestle, punch and user a Taser on Blake moments before he started recording.

After they punched him in his rib, the female officer Tased him and Jacob kind of leaned on the car and they proceeded to wrestle him toward the back of the car and he went to the other side of the car,” he told CNN. “When they were on the other side of the car on the ground, I had to pick up my camera and start recording.”

White told the Associated Press that he heard officers shout “Drop the knife! Drop the knife!” before they shot Blake, but said he didn’t see one in his hands.

Blake had many opportunities to comply with the police but he did not. Instead, Blake put his kids, who were in the vehicle, at risk by resisting arrest and then reaching into the vehicle.

The police did not put the children at risk–Blake did.

Politicians and the media need to stop justifying bad behavior and start standing up for police and law and order. Politicians and the media have created an environment, I believe, that has emboldened people to feel like they do not need to comply with law enforcement. This puts EVERYONE at risk.

I don’t care if you’re white, black, Asian, Latino, whatever. You cannot violently resist arrest from police and expect everything to turn out hunky-dory.
