Former President Barack Hussein Obama will reportedly forgo visiting the White House for the unveiling of his official White House portrait until Donald Trump is out office, according to NBC News. If that means waiting until 2025, that is what he will do.

It is unclear from the NBC reporting if the Trump White House had indicated they would not host Obama.

Trump is unconcerned about shunning yet another presidential custom, and he has attacked Obama to an extent no other president has done to a predecessor. Most recently he’s made unfounded accusations that Obama committed an unspecified crime.

Obama, for his part, has no interest in participating in the post-presidency rite of passage so long as Trump is in office, the people familiar with the matter said.

NBC News did not indicate that any sources said Trump refused to host Obama.

Conservatives on Twitter are attacking Obama for not being willing to attend with Trump in office. Liberals are blaming Trump for breaking tradition and refusing to host Obama. However, even the NBC News report does not specify that Trump is the one holding up the unveiling.

Which narrative is the truth? Who knows.

Obama has apparently had a change of heart since 2012, when he said this at George W. Bush’s unveiling:

“We may have our differences politically, but the presidency transcends those differences.”

Honestly, even if Obama were willing to attend, I should hope Trump would not host him. It appears increasingly likely that Obama was involved in spying on Trump and sabotaging him and his incoming administration on the basis of lies about Russian collusion. Talk about breaking traditions! I am more concerned with traditions on peaceful transfers of power than about portrait unveilings.

The last time a president did not host his predecessor for an unveiling ceremony was back when Jimmy Carter was president, according to the Daily Caller.

Obama is acting like the small and petty narcissist that he is. It is unfitting of a former president.
