From our own Paralethal comes this bit of commentary about the recent redo of the old holiday classic, Baby It’s Cold Outside:
I was a choir girl back in the elementary and secondary school days. (Note: that’s choir girl, not chorus girl. Pretty sure my legs are too short for that.) Now, maybe it’s just a bit cloudy because I graduated around 25 years ago, but I could swear that pretty much every winter concert during high school, we sang “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” (as well as Carol of the Bells). It was the mid-90s. We never gave the lyrics a second thought. If anything, we were young silly girls who liked to pretend that a few of us would end up being lounge singers or something.
Imagine my surprise years later when “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” became the source of much ire for progressives and third-wave feminists. I mean, at least when Key and Peele redid the song, it was funny.
But this, this new hot trash is, well it’s hot trash. Superwoke Grammy award winner John Legend teamed up with Kelly Clarkson to perform a new version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” I thought maybe I could deal with some slightly different lyrics, but this?
“What will my friends think (I think they should rejoice)
If I have one more drink? (It’s your body, and your choice.)”
This is where I feel like saying “Aww hell naw.” The second they threw that phrase in there, I was done with it.
I guess at least now some of those radio stations who banned the song can start playing this version. The song was written in 1944 by Frank Loesser. His daughter Susan expressed frustration at the song being turned into an alleged date rape anthem. “I would get annoyed because it’s a song my father wrote for him and my mother to sing at parties.”
In case you were truly so inclined, the album, “A Legendary Christmas: The Deluxe Edition,” will be out on Nov. 8. I have the feeling not too many here will be waiting in line with bated breath.
To add my own bit of commentary here, I’d just like to point out that it is PATENTLY RIDICULOUS that people keep being outraged about this song being “rapey” when there are like 90 skrillion hip hop songs that are plenty more rapey and gross than Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Why do progressives have to ruin everything? Why?
PS. A long long time ago I sang that song with Joe Pags. 🙂
