Nothing is black and white.
While I agree red flag laws, as described by many, could quickly lead to abuse and the infringement of Second Amendment rights, I also believe we need to be having thoughtful, serious conversations about our options.
We need to be listening before we judge.
So, while many may be angry at President Trump for even CONSIDERING the possibility… I am not so quick to turn my back. I think thoughtful consideration and analysis of different plans of action may be warranted.
If after a serious discussion it’s determined the course of action is a bad one – so be it. But I won’t refuse to listen.
President Trump tweeted the following today:
….mentally ill or deranged people. I am the biggest Second Amendment person there is, but we all must work together for the good and safety of our Country. Common sense things can be done that are good for everyone!

“Serious discussions are taking place between House and Senate leadership on meaningful Background Checks,” Trump tweeted. “I have also been speaking to the NRA, and others, so that their very strong views can be fully represented and respected. Guns should not be placed in the hands of mentally ill or deranged people. I am the biggest Second Amendment person there is, but we all must work together for the good and safety of our Country. Common sense things can be done that are good for everyone!”
Many see this as a betrayal of Second Amendment rights. Again… I do not. I am willing to listen and consider the options. I will pass judgment once I fully understand what those options ARE.
So NO, I do NOT agree with red flag laws… but I do believe we need to hear what people are saying before we shut down the conversation, so we can more adequately explain what we take issue with.
