This is devastating. My prayers go out to Brian Simonsen’s family.
Simonsen was an NYPD detective who was killed in the line of duty last night. He was responding to a robbery at a T-Mobile store in Queens and was struck by friendly fire. The 27-year-old suspect was using a fake gun.
A sergeant who responded to the robbery with Simonsen was also shot in the leg during the incident but is expected to recover.
The suspected robber, a 27-year-old with a lengthy rap sheet, was also shot and is in serious condition, authorities said. He was using an imitation gun during the robbery, O’Neill said.
What’s worse? Simonsen didn’t even have to work last night, but he decided to anyway.
