You’ve got to admit… it’s turned into a bit of a punchline.
Why? Well, because it just sounds so… out of this world. (Ba-Dum-Bum)
But as the threats against our national security evolve… so should our response to them.
Sure, maybe “Space Force” sounds like something out of a Science Fiction movie… but I’m not too young to remember people scoffing at the idea of walking around with “mini-computers” in their pockets.
Raise your hand if you have an iPhone… or any other kind of Smart Phone, for that matter.
The future comes at us fast, folks.
VP Pence made some MAJOR announcements about “Space Force” today… and the future IS coming… like it or not.
According to the Washington Times:
The U.S. “Space Force” will become a reality by 2020, Vice President Mike Pence and Defense Secretary James Mattis promised Thursday, laying out a highly ambitious timeline to set up the first new branch of the armed forces in 75 years and making the case that America must prepare for space threats from Russia, China, North Korea and other hostile actors.
Yup – it’s happening. FAST.
Speaking at the Pentagon Thursday morning, Mr. Pence said the Trump administration sees space as the next frontier in war and is ready to take dramatic action to prepare for future conflicts.
“Now the time has come to write the next great chapter in the history of our armed forces, to prepare for the next battlefield. … The time has come to establish the United States Space Force,” the vice president said. “What was once once peaceful and uncontested is now crowded and adversarial. Today, other nations are seeking to disrupt our space-based systems and challenge American supremacy in space as never before … the United States will not shrink from this challenge.”
Here’s VP Pence’s entire speech:
Ok… is it weird to admit I’m SUPER EXCITED?!
I know this isn’t going to be anything like Bruce Willis in “Armageddon.” It’s probably going to be a bunch of computer programmers in a room or something.
But I don’t care… you can’t take that image away from me:
Totally still brings tears to my eyes. I love that movie.
