Kat Von D Beauty Contest Winner Disqualified Over Pro-Trump Instagram Post

Hannah Bleau

I’m a big fan of Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick, and it pains me to say, I’m going to have to rethink that, because this ticks me off.

Kat Von D Beauty recently sponsored a national Instagram contest (the “Saint + Sinner Contest”) and crowned the winner, Gypsy Freeman. She won with this photo:

@katvondbeauty @mercyhanna_15 #SaintandSinner #KVDContest Photography and water/milkbath concept @jennbischof Model @numinous.model MUAH/wardrobe @facesofgypsy #kvdcontest Foundation @temptu As Hamlet said to Ophelia, ”God has given you one face, and you make yourself another.” The battle between these two halves of identity…Who we are and who we pretend to be, is unwinnable. “Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to every person. One that we reveal to the world and another we keep hidden inside. A duality governed by the balance of light and darkness, within each of us is the capacity for both good and evil. But those who are able to blur the moral dividing line hold the true power. -Emily Thorne

That photo won her a big Sephora gift card and the opportunity to fly to L.A. for Kat Von D’s new makeup line launch party. The prize is worth over $2,000.

End of story, right? Wrong! After she won, everyone went to her Instagram page to stalk her and found this Election Day post.

She happens to be a Trump supporter. That’s cool, right? WRONG. No more prize for her! Not kidding.

According to the Kansas City Star, Freeman received a message from Kat Von D’s personal Instagram account. In it, Kat Von D (I’m assuming she’s the one who sent the message) said she had to draw a “personal line in the sand between myself and anyone who supports that man.”

“My launch party [and my brand] celebrates many things that Trump is against,” Kat Von D wrote. “And I just need you to know that I personally have a hard time with inviting anyone who would support such an anti-feminist, anti-homosexual/LGBT, anti-immigrant, and anti-climate change fascist such as Trump.”

Freeman’s response was all class– much classier than mine would’ve been.

“I won’t be upset with you if you can’t have us there for these reasons, and I wish you the best,” she wrote. “We would love to be there, of course, but I sincerely do understand if you decide to replace us with someone who supports the candidate you support.”

Kat Von D responded by telling her it’s nothing too personal. Like, she wouldn’t be able to be friends with Hitler supporters either.

“It’s not about inviting people based on their political stance – it’s just extremely difficult (borderline impossible) for me to be friends with or associate with anyone who would support a man who goes against everything I stand for. I would feel the same way towards people who supported Hitler, or any other fascist,” she wrote.

I guess she forgot to mention that the contest was only open to Hillary Clinton supporters. I wonder if that was in the fine print?

Kat Von D is soooooooooooooo tolerant and open-minded, isn’t she? A simple MAGA logo Instagram post disqualified this woman from winning a contest. It’s too triggering. Kat Von D LITERALLY CANNOT handle it. She can’t be in the same room as someone who supports Trump. She’d end up with some serious PTSD or something.

“I didn’t erase (the Trump post) either,” Freeman said. “Part of the great thing about this country is having freedom of speech.”

I hope she doesn’t delete it, either. Keep that baby up.

“I said the same thing to Kat. I was like, ‘You can say whatever you want to say and you shouldn’t filter comments based on who I support. It doesn’t bother me,'” she continued.

However, she said she’s going to reconsider using Kat Von D’s beauty products in her line of work. She also plans to tell Sephora about this incident.

“It’s definitely bigotry – it’s everything that they’re calling us, they’re doing,” Freeman said, according to the Kansas City Star. “It’s a huge case of hypocrisy.”

TOTAL hypocrisy. 100%.

I’m torn now. Part of me wants to essentially boycott her brand (and you guys KNOW how much I hate boycotts), but another part of me finds a tad bit of glee knowing Kat Von D is seriously triggered by a Trump supporter sporting her lipstick.

Decisions, decisions.
