Over the weekend, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson posted a sweet Mother’s Day message to his wife, Ciara. Tell me if you notice anything wrong with his caption.
Are you offended? No? Good. That means you’re a normal, rational human being. Some insufferable life ruiners are irked by his message because he said “raising our kids.” As in, he referred to Ciara’s first child as his own, even though he’s not the biological father. Apparently, that’s unacceptable.
Comments included “Russ, go worry about your done career. The man’s child can never be yours” and “Future is not your child! Just cause you changed his diaper once doesn’t make you his dad and you shouldn’t assume that role. He has a father. Come on now” and “mmmmm ‘our children’ u are disrespectful dude! U have one child with Ciara.. future is not yours … are u crazy smh” and “‘our kids’ lol pretty sure HER son with HIS father is not YOUR kid. Stay in your lane and raise the one kid you can actually call yours” and “Russell I think your [sic] a nice guy but you shouldn’t try to take Futures place in his child’s life. Know your role.”
There’s more where that came from. It’s pretty despicable. Trust me.
OF COURSE Wilson can take on a fatherly role for Future. It doesn’t necessarily mean he’s replacing Future’s biological father. He’s simply being a loving step dad. He has a role in Future’s life, and he’s willingly embracing that role. It’s commendable. The minute he married Ciara, Future became his boy too. What? Did everyone want Wilson to say, “I’m so grateful I get to spend the rest of my life with you & raising my biological kid and my biological kid only”? Give me a break.
His message was sweet and endearing. Everyone who thinks otherwise can suck it.
