Parkland Student Cameron Kasky Shares STRIKING Message On Being Called A “Victim”

I have so much respect for Cameron Kasky.

Cameron openly calls himself a liberal. We fall on different sides of the gun control debate. BUT – unlike many in his position, Cameron is willing to listen, and learn.

Sadly – he’s been attacked for this.

He often questions the ongoing narrative – and that CLEARLY makes him a traitor.

His latest message s truly a powerful one:

Please do not call me a “victim” or “survivor” of a mass shooting. I was 100+ yards away from the gunfire. There are kids who had to climb over dead bodies. In my opinion, calling me a victim or witness or survivor diminishes what they went through. I was completely safe.

At first I was perfectly comfortable with it as I was deeply focused on getting the undeniably crucial gun control message across, but with time I’ve gained some new perspective and I think it was wrong of me to accept those labels.

His honesty and ability for self-reflection are so incredibly refreshing.

Strangely enough… people really, REALLY want him to be a victim:

I think differentiating labels based on whether you were “merely” at the scene or directly shot at is too semantic.

In my humble opinion, anybody that could have been there could have been killed.

How is being shot vs not being shot “too semantic.” There’s a pretty SIGNIFICANT difference there.

Cameron, the way I see it is that every American who is alive right now is a survivor of a mass shooting. As non-american, living in a country where we don't face gun violence, seeing what's happening right now in the US, it feels like a warzone. There's no place that is safe

You were & are a part of something bigger than yourself. You and others got the national conversation going about gun laws. This needed to happen!You were concerned about your brother when the shooting was going on. You were impacted by all of this. Don’t minimize it.

Yes, but you were very worried about the safety of your brother. So there was a real situation of being scared. Also knowing PPL who were shot is very painful. In that light you are a victim. Having bad dreams etc. But I understand your point. Take care! Thanks for your work.

This young man, with time and thought, has gained a new perspective. It's called maturity.

Now the Twitter universe is turning on him with their arrogance to tell him he is wrong.
