This really doesn’t come as a shock.
As you’ve likely heard, Facebook, Spotify and Apple have banned Alex Jones. Now, don’t get me wrong. I cannot STAND Alex Jones, but I also cannot STAND tech companies standing in as the “hate speech” police. It’s a slippery slope. Who’s next?
The “video-hosting website” Vimeo has now come into the fray. It has banned Alex Jones for allegedly violating its Terms of Service.
InfoWars posted more than 50 new videos on Vimeo by Thursday and Friday, Business Insider said.
Before that, the channel had fewer than a dozen videos uploaded to it.
Vimeo’s Trust & Safety team manually reviewed the videos uploaded to InfoWars’ channel and moved within 48 hours to delete them from the site.
“We can confirm that Vimeo removed InfoWars’ account on Sunday, August 12 following the uploading of videos on Thursday and Friday that violated our Terms of Service prohibitions on discriminatory and hateful content,” Vimeo spokesperson said, according to Daily Mail. “Vimeo has notified the account owner and issued a refund.”
Here’s what it looks like now:
I’m not surprised by any of this.
At this point, Twitter is the only big platform that’s defending its decision to keep Alex Jones around. As Jack said, “If we succumb and simply react to outside pressure, rather than straightforward principles we enforce (and evolve) impartially regardless of political viewpoints, we become a service that’s constructed by our personal views that can swing in any direction. That’s not us.”
Except it kinda is, because Twitter has been pretty inconsistent in this department. Remember when it suspended Candace Owens? And banned Gavin McInnes?
It’s only a matter of time, really.
