We Need To Talk About Ron DeSantis’ Latest ‘Controversial’ Campaign Ad

I noticed “DeSantis” trending this morning and had a bad feeling. Ever since he announced his bid for governor, swamp creatures on both sides– libs and establishment Republicans– have been after him.

Full disclosure: He’s my current representative, and I interned for his office during my senior (or maybe it was my junior? I can’t remember) year in college. He was always nothing but nice, even when he was a political “nobody.” I’ll never forget how he gave me the time of day to interview him on camera after a wild week in DC followed by a long town hall meeting. He was visibly exhausted but did it anyway, and it said something. The little things go a long way.

He’s a principled conservative, and he seems like a genuinely good person IRL, so yeah. I’m supporting his bid for governor.

Back to his name “trending.” Apparently, he released new campaign ad, and it’s rubbing a lot of people the wrong way. I’ll let you watch it before I go on any further.

People on BOTH sides are freaking out. Some Republicans are all, “OMG I cannot believe he doesn’t have a platform of his own! This is so embarrassing!” And Democrats are all, “OMG this is what Republicans are resorting to. THEY ARE BLINDED BY TRUMP!”

I hate to break it to you guys (no I don’t), but IT’S A SPOOF. DeSantis and his wife are capitalizing on the #resistance whining about DeSantis being a “shill” for Trump. They’re going all out and making a joke out of THEM. It’s painfully obvious. Casey DeSantis literally says, “People say Ron’s all Trump, but he’s so much more,” and the camera cuts away to him saying “Big League” to his kid wearing a MAGA onesie. How can you not tell that it’s a joke???? They’re deliberately being absurd to demonstrate the other side’s absurdity.

IT’S A JOKE PEOPLE. Are we really at the point where we have to put, “FYI, WE ARE TROLLING YOU” in big white letters ahead of campaign ads? Wow.
