This takes #FakeNews to a whole new level.
There’s a viral video floating around, showing former President Obama calling current President Trump a dipsh*t. Now, it’s not ACTUALLY real, but it shows how easy it is for people to create videos that make it sound like former presidents are calling current presidents dipsh*ts.
“We’re entering an era in which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point in time — even if they would never say those things,” “Obama” says in the video.
“So, for instance, they could have me say things like, I don’t know, [Black Panther’s] Killmonger was right, or Ben Carson is in the sunken place,” he said. “Or, how about this: Simply, President Trump is a total and complete dipsh*t.”
It’s obviously fake, but look how easy it for people to do this. Imagine how much more legit these fake vids will look in the coming years. We already have fake print news. Now we’re gonna have to be on guard for fake videos.
Peele and his production company, Monkeypaw Productions, as well as BuzzFeed, made the video to convey the dangers of deepfakes.
Deepfakes are digitally-altered videos that use sophisticated machine learning algorithms to create human masks that are then overlaid on top of real footage.
In many cases, the technology has been used to create AI-assisted porn of Hollywood’s leading ladies.
Well, that’s horrifying.
Experts have warned that the technology is poised to be the ‘future of fake news’ or as technologist Aviv Ovadya said it can make anyone ‘appear as if anything has happened, regardless of whether or not it did’.
BuzzFeed said it took around 56 hours to make the video using programs like Adobe After Effects and FakeApp.
FakeApp lets anyone create their own deepfakes videos via an easy-to-use app that can be downloaded directly to your desktop computer.
Here’s the scariest part:
Experts warn the videos could be realistic enough to manipulate future elections and global political as soon as 2020.
Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.
Beware of “Deepfakes” everyone.
It’s fine. Everything is fine.
