According to this, three chicks from New Hampshire are suing the state because of a city ordinance that prohibits public nudity. All three are part of the “Free the Nipple” movement, and one of those women is pictured below (photo from the sourcelink).
All three women were ticketed back in 2016 when they went topless at a public beach. Since other people at the beach were subjected to the sight of their boobular areas, and didn’t particularly appreciate it, they complained, and a police officer asked the women to cover up. They refused, they were arrested, and now here we are.
The state Supreme Court will hear the case on the first of February. The chicks are hoping that the city ordinance will be invalidated, because they believe since there is no state law forbidding female toplesseness, they’re in the clear here. Plus, they think the ordinance is discriminatory, since dudes are allowed to be shirtless.
Naturally, the New Hampshire ACLU has gotten in on the action, and they’re supporting these chicks because they believe showing your boobs is a matter of free expression.
‘Here, the Laconia ordinance prevents women from making choices about their state of bodily expression using the full range of options available to their male counterparts,’ said Gilles Bissonnette, the group’s legal director.
‘This case presents an issue of significant importance concerning the right of women under the New Hampshire constitution to speak freely and the constitutional implications of codified stereotypes related to females’ roles and sexuality.’
And because people in the AG’s office have Actual Common Sense, their defense against this suit is that allowing women to expose their boobs everywhere would cause public disturbances.
And of course, they’re right. But this is 2018, and chicks care deeply about showing their boobs, while at the same time caring deeply about not objectifying women, while at the same time caring deeply about not being sexually assaulted, while at the same time defying the patriarchy, while at the same time wanting to show the patriarchy their boobs.
The woman pictured above says she’s fought for women’s rights for decades, and this whole showing her boobs thing “shouldn’t be an issue.” She said, “It’s not an issue if a man takes off his shirt. Why should it be an issue if a woman takes off her shirt?”
Ok, just turn away right now, body positivity folks. Imma bout to go all Trump on you right now, and say what everyone is already thinking when they look at the picture of that woman and her boobs.
Here’s why it’s an issue. NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THAT.
Listen – it’s simply a fact that a woman’s breasts are seen as sexual objects. I don’t know the history on that, but I don’t think it’s really something that’s up for current debate. It is what it is. And because they’re viewed as sexual objects, it’s kinda inappropriate for them to be exposed in public places, where there are kids around. Hence, all the public nudity laws/ordinances. I cannot believe this requires explanation.
But let’s assume for a moment that the Free The Nipple weirdos are successful in their endeavors to be topless everywhere, and laws get changed and women just start walking around with their boobs flopping around. What is actually accomplished? I’ll tell you what’s accomplished. A bunch of dudes end up delighted that they have easy access to boobs on display which is basically all they ever wanted anyway. If you think that’s not handing that “patriarchy” exactly what it wants, you’re freaking high.
But here’s the bad news, fellas. You’re gonna see a whole lot of boobs that look like the ones in the photo, and just to reiterate, because I think I speak for many many many many people when I say this, NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THAT.
Cue accusations of body-shaming. I don’t give a crap. There are African countries that are complete sh*t-holes, and there are people who should cover up in public. The end.
