Okay, it was actually a bar, not a soup cafe (the Seinfeld reference was too good to pass up). But still – just another day in New York City’s super-tolerant leftist utopia…
According to this, a man named Greg Piatek was wearing a Make American Great Again hat when he went into a bar in New York’s West Village. It doesn’t look like he was trying to make a political statement – he was just wearing a hat. And because of his hat, the bar refused to serve him –
Greg Piatek, 30, an accountant from Philadelphia, claims he was snubbed and eventually 86’d by workers at The Happiest Hour on West 10th Street over his conservative fashion statement, popularized by Donald Trump on the campaign trail, he told The Post.
“Anyone who supports Trump — or believes what you believe — is not welcome here! And you need to leave right now because we won’t serve you!” Piatek claims he was told as he was shown the door by a manager.
Oh – wow. That’s… that’s just bad business, that is.
Piatek is now suing the bar for how he was treated. It looks like the bartenders didn’t see his hat until after the first round of drinks, but when he went to order a second round for himself and his friends, the employees noticed and that’s when the trouble started –
A female bartender served Piatek a $15 jalapeño margarita and his pals beers. But when he tried to order a second round, a male bartender noticed his hat — and skipped them, he said.
One of Piatek’s pals pointed out it was their turn to be served, but the bartender scoffed. “Is that hat a joke?” the Manhattan Supreme Court suit claims.
“Immediately it clicked,” Piatek said, adding that bartenders didn’t see the pro-Trump slogan until he turned his back to the bar.
“Ignoring me because I’m wearing the hat is ridiculous,” Piatek said. “It’s really sad.”
The “flustered” bartender got them a second round but allegedly “slammed the drinks down.”
A third bartender also asked Piatek if his lid was a joke and shouted, “I can’t believe you would support someone so terrible and you must be as terrible a person!” Piatek claimed.
“I wasn’t even trying to order a drink and she said, ‘Don’t even try to order from me. I won’t get you a drink,’ ” Piatek alleged.
A manager said he spoke to the bar owner, and was told, “Anyone who supports Trump or believes what you believe is not welcome here. And you need to leave right now because we won’t serve you!” according to the suit.
I’m of two minds on this:
One – the bar is a private establishment and can deny service to anyone they want to, no matter how stupid the reasoning is. Though they should be prepared to face the consequences if indeed the reason is as stupid as they didn’t like the guy’s hat or his politics.
Two – You already served the guy one round! But the only thing that changed about your attitude towards him was that you knew what kind of hat he was wearing? Not only did you not serve him, but you treated him like absolute garbage? In front of his friends AND your other customers? That’s really where you lost me, quite frankly. You claim that Trump supporters are basically the spawn of Satan, but your own behavior isn’t exactly that of the angels.
This is why I can’t take these anti-Trump psychos seriously, honestly. They act just as bad – if not worse – than the people they claim to be so vehemently against.
I don’t know how far this lawsuit is going to go, but I do hope that Piatek gets something from all this. Already, we have yet another example of anti-Trump lunatics losing their crap over pretty much nothing. And that doesn’t speak well for them.
